Alvin Eugene McCandless

Alvin "Gene" McCandless, 53, passed away February 14, 2002 at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital, Beaumont, Texas.  He lived in Beaumont twenty-six years before making his residency in Lumberton in 1980.  Mr. McCandless was also a proud Navy Veteran of the Viet Nam war.  He spent twenty-seven years as a process operator for Mobil Oil where he retired only to go back to work as a process operator for Equistar.  

Mr. McCandless' funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 17, at Broussard's on Major Dr. with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  Serving as pallbearers will be Darrin Murff, David Murff, Johnny Roberts, Larry Beauchamp, Gary Gorsich and Tony Boatman.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne McCandless of Lumberton; son, Justin Eugene McCandless and his fiance, Jenae Butler of Camano Island, Washington; daughter, Julie Elaine McCandless of Beaumont; brothers, Ronald McCandless and Randy McCandless and his wife, Sarah all of Beaumont; mother, Betty McCandless of Beaumont; aunts, Mary Rogers of Beaumont, Grace Beauchamp of Abilene and Mary Roberts of Anson; uncle, Gordon McCandless of Petersburg, Virginia and four nieces and three nephews.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.

Walter Eugene (Gene) Meredith

June 25, 1949 - April 7, 2009

Walter Eugene Meredith went to be with his Father Tuesday, April 7, 2009, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

 

Gene was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on June 25, 1949. His family moved to the Beaumont area soon after that. He was a graduate and class president of the French High School Class of 1967. He was dedicated to planning their class reunions every five years.  He planned seven of them with great success. He also received an associate’s degree from LamarUniversity.  He married Peggy Pate Meredith on December 13, 1969.  Gene and Peggy were blessed with two wonderful children, Jason and Gina. He was a member of Crestwood Baptist church.

 

Gene retired from ExxonMobil after thirty-one years of service. He truly enjoyed his job, but even more than that he loved the people he worked with and the many true friends he spent those years with.  Gene was a man of honor and always put his family first. He was a great storyteller, had a quick wit, and loved making people laugh. His wit and humor will live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. 

 

He loved fishing, hunting, playing golf, and his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He loved his bike even though he only got to ride it a few times. 

 

Gene is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Charles “Hoss” Pate, Sr.; and sister-in-law, Becky Pate.

 

Gene is survived by his father, Joe Meredith of Conroe; and mother, Beatrice Meredith of Lumberton; by his wife, Peggy; his son, Jason and his wife Kristan of Lumberton; his daughter, Gina Cox and her husband Allan of Spring, Texas; granddaughter, Gabie and grandson, Tyler both of Lumberton. Gene is also survived by two brothers, Bill Meredith and his wife DeEsta of The Woodlands and Burke Meredith and his wife Donna of Beaumont; brothers–in-law, Charles Pate, Jr. and his wife Ginger of Lumberton, and Paul Pate and his wife Dee of Kingwood; mother-in-law, Juanita Pate; sister-in-law, Brenda Anderson; and ten nieces and nephews.

 

Timothy J. Mingus

October 30, 1948 - June 17, 2002 

TIMOTHY JAMES MINGUS, age 53, passed away on 6-17-2002. He is survived by his brother, Joe Mingus of Katy, TX, sister and brother-in-law, Marty and Joe Cassady of Flower Mound, TX, father, Fred Mingus of Lady Lake, FL, nephews, Kenny Mingus of Cameron, TX and Chad Cassady of Flower Mound, TX, niece, Katy Carter of Lexington, TX, and a million friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Toys for Tots.

 

 

Rennie Monroe

Rennie Lamar Monroe, born December 1, 1948, in Beaumont, Texas, died peacefully May 13, 2016 at OLOL surrounded by his loving family. A resident of Baton Rouge for the past 41 years, he retired from British Petroleum in 1999 and spent the next 14 years traveling the world as an engineering procurement consultant. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ann Mullins Monroe; daughters and sons-in-law, Emily and Kyle Godfrey and Katie and Jeb Barber; grandchildren, Mary Thomas Godfrey, Anna Katherine Godfrey and Sadie Barber; sister, Suzanne Walker; and many other loving relatives and friends. He will be remembered as a strong, quiet man, loving husband, father and grandfather. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Ryan Shows whose care guided them through this journey. Visitation is at First United Methodist Church, 930 North Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70802 at noon on Saturday, May 21st, with a service following at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Episcopal School of Baton Rouge, 3200 Woodland Ridge Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70816, or The Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.

Robert "Buddy" Richey, 63, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Christus Hospital, St. Elizabeth.   He was born October 10, 1948 in Beaumont to Violet Mellen Richey and Thomas G. Richey, Sr. 

Buddy was an Instrumentation Technician for Mobil Oil.  He loved to play the guitar and compose his own music.  He was also known to show love and care to some we might consider "the least of these".  Survivors include his cousin, David Mellen of Beaumont; daughters, Leslie Pollard and her husband, Eric of Conroe; Sheila Taylor and husband, Jimmy of Spring and Jennifer Bodle and husband, Marlin of Crosby, Minnesota; grandchildren, Christian Pollard, Brandon Pollard, Zachary Taylor, Cody Taylor, Kayla Richey, Kira Richey; sisters, Marilyn Mallary and husband, Bill and Chestine Box and her husband, Dan.

The family would like to thank Jerry Kingsley for taking Buddy to his numerous cancer treatments in Houston.  A commital for Mr. Richey was held at Broussard's Crematorium.

Michael St. Clair

MICHAEL L. (MIKE) ST. CLAIR, 53, of Houston, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2002. Mike was born and raised in Beaumont, TX. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He attended Rice University. Mike worked in the banking industry for many years before owning and operating several floral shops in the Houston area, and was presently managing LaQuinta Inn and Suites. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lloyd St.Clair and is survived by his mother, Aderle St. Clair Hall and husband, Thomas; sister, Sherry Storer and husband, Steve; brother, Terry L. St. Clair and wife, Gwen; one niece, three nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
