Steven F. Segrest
Steven F. Segrest passed away on December 8, 2016.  He was a resident of Pt. Arthur, but grew up in Beaumont.  Steven graduated from French High School and was a member of the class of 1967. He joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served in Viet Nam from 1967-1968.  Steven enjoyed art and fishing his entire life.  He is survived by a daughter and a son and two grandsons and a sister.

 

Karl Michael Self

April 25, 1949 - Decemebr 12, 1987

Karl Michael Self, chief photographer for the Port Arthur News, collapsed and died at his Beaumont home Saturday.  He was 38.

 A family member said he experienced discomfort about 3 a.m., then collapsed and died.    Mike and his wife, Margaret, had attended a dinner Friday night in Port Neches honoring Bill Meroney, who retires January 1 as publisher of the Port Arthur News.

Self was chief photographer for the News since June 27, 1984.  An Air Force veteran, he also had worked for four years for the Beaumont Enterprise, had helped run a family business and had worked for Nelson's Photographics Inc. in Beaumont.

A native and lifelong resident of Beaumont, Self had attended Lamar Universary and Yuba College in Yuba City, Calif.

Survivirs include his wife; mother, Grace Self; and a brother, Chuck Self, all of Beaumont.

Thomas N. Thompson

Tommy Thompson, 64, of  Vidor, died Saturday, November 30, 2013 at his residence.  A native of Raton, NM., he was a longtime residentof Vidor and a retired computer systems engineer with Texas Instruments.  Thomas was a past graduate of French High School class of 1967.  Tommy served his country in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam war.  Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor.  Tommy was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha Helen Wadley Thompson and his granddaughter, Rylee Thompson.  Tommy is survived by his son, Jason Thompson, daughter, Heidi Butaud, both of Vidor, father, Leon Thompson, Sr., of Houston, brother, Leon Thompson, Jr., of Denton, Tx., sister, Jean LaGrone of Houston, grandchildren, Caitlyn Thompson, Britton Thompson, Alexis Butaud, Brett Butaud and Caitlin Butaud.

 

Jack Townsend

October 21, 1948 - August 27, 2011          

Jack Lee Townsend, 62, of Sour Lake, died Saturday, August 27, 2011. A native of Beaumont and lifelong resident of Sour Lake, he was born October 21, 1948, to Faye Smyly Townsend and J.L. Townsend. He was a consultant with Streamline Production Systems, Inc.

 

Survivors include his sons, Jay Townsend and his wife, Marcy of Beaumont and Josh Townsend and his wife, Kristin of Gainesville; grandchildren, Tanner Townsend, Aaron Biehle, Tyler Townsend, Jathen Townsend and Mattison Townsend; brother, Jerry Townsend and his wife, Peggy of Zavalla; sisters, Nan Townsend Richardson of College Station, Kay Townsend Hare and her husband, Wallace of Jasper, Cecelia Townsend Barclay and her husband, Billy of Silsbee and Sue Townsend Chaplin of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Faye and J. L. Townsend; and brother-in-law, Reginald Richardson.

David Clifton Ward

July 31, 1948 - November 11, 1990

David C. Ward, son of Eddie and Peggy Ward of Beaumont passed away on Nov. 11, 1990 in Veteran's Hospital, Denver, Colorado.

David was born on July 31, 1948 in Beaumont, attended Beaumont schools and graduated from French High in 1967.  He was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church while growing up in Beaumont.

David enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1968 and was trained as a Medical Tech.  After being discharged from the service, he worked in different hospitals in Houston before moving to California where he worked in hospitals in Los Angles and San Fransico.  He moved to Colorado where he worked as a volunteer in a V.A. Aids Clinic.  In 1989, he found he had contracted cancer.

David is survived by his parents and his grandmother, Georgiana Irving, Beaumont; sister, Kathie Ann Paulsen and her husband, John; nephew, John L. Paulsen Jr.; neices, Courtney and Ashley Paulsen, all of Aurora, Colorado.  He was loved and will be missed by many.
